A traffic stop ultimately resulted in a drug-related arrest late last month for numerous synthetic narcotics and marijuana.
Chief Deputy Scott Hammond reported that on March 24, Deputy Kelley was running radar on U.S. Highway 280 when he observed a vehicle with extremely tinted front windows. He proceeded to conduct a traffic stop.
While approaching the vehicle, Kelley detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. After measuring the window tint and still smelling marijuana coming from the vehicle, the driver advised Kelley that he had outstanding warrants in Coosa County. Kelley found that the driver had outstanding warrants through the Rockford Police Department.
The driver also advised Kelley that he had marijuana in the vehicle. Kelley proceeded to conduct a search of the vehicle and found marijuana and synthetic narcotics inside it.
The same day, 28-year-old Erin Alexander McCoy of Sylacauga was arrested and charged with felony marijuana possession and two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the synthetic narcotics.
McCoy’s bond was set at $16,000, and he was released on bond on March 25 to await trial.
