The Body of Christ is an interesting and integral part of the Bible that many today don’t grasp.
It is a very simple concept, but must be realized through revelation because of the religious confusion existing today.
The simple aspect is that Jesus has a body – not numerous bodies. Scripture plainly declares it!
His body is His church.
Most agree there is one Jesus, one Father and one Holy Ghost. There is also one body.
“There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” –Ephesians 4:4-6.
The “one faith” is contained in the “one body,” or the church of God.
Paul clearly explains the concept in the Book of Galatians.
He states in verse 13, “For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews’ religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it:”
A few verses later reveal, “But they had heard only, That he which persecuted us in times past now preacheth the faith which one he destroyed.” – Galatians 1:23.
Paul had persecuted the church of God, but he then began preaching the faith which once he destroyed.
There is one faith and one body – the church of God, which contains the faith (the full gospel doctrine committed to the church). Jesus commissioned his church this way: “Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you…” – Matthew 28:19.
The “all things” is the faith contained in the church of God. The faith is what the church is to contend for.
“Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.” – Jude 1:3.
It is the doctrine Jesus committed to the church. Those who were saved and joined the church in Acts continued in it.
“Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.” – Acts 2:41-42.
It is evident, according to scripture, that the church is His body.
Ephesians 1:22-23 state, “And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all.”
A beautiful depiction of the church is found in Song of Solomon.
“My dove, my undefiled is but one; she is the only one of her mother, she is the choice one of her that bare her. The daughters saw her, and blessed her; yea, the queens and the concubines, and they praised her.” – Song of Solomon 6:9.
It is also evident that Jesus’ government (theocracy) is upon His one body. Isaiah tells us that Jesus’ “government will be upon his shoulder” (body).
The future is bright for Jesus’ one church.
Ephesians 5:27 states, “That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.”
The purchase price for the church of God was costly.
“Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.” – Acts 20:28.
He purchased her with His own blood. He will return for a perfected bride.
“Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.” – Revelation 19:7.
