During its January meeting the Board of Education approved two non-certified hires, with names available after the minutes were approved at the February 26 meeting, along with other personnel matters.
With a letter of recommendation from Adam Hopper, assistant superintendent, the Board unanimously approved hiring Samuel Lee as maintenance supervisor for the 2025-2026 school year, pending completion of requirements.
Also, with a letter of recommendation from Jeff Moore, transportation supervisor, the Board unanimously approved hiring Eddie Roberts as a bus driver for the 2025-2026 school year, also pending completion of requirements.
The Board also unanimously approved Jessica Boyd as a substitute teacher/aide for the 2025-2026 school year.
In other personnel matters, the Board approved accepting a letter of resignation from special education teacher Andrew Padgett, effective January 30. Board Member Jenny Kimbrell recused herself from voting on the matter.
With a recommendation from Superintendent of Education David Stover, the Board also unanimously approved hiring Boardman Carr to conduct a chief school financial officer search.
Also during the January meeting, the Board heard a presentation from Josie Harrison on the Alabama State Games, the state’s largest multi-sport event. The Alabama State Games will take place June 12-14 and will bring athletes together for Olympic-style competition.
Stover and the Board also discussed getting whole Board training set up for this month.
Also during the January meeting, Stover presented certificates and gifts to Board members to express the system’s gratitude for their services during School Board Recognition Month.
The next regularly scheduled monthly meeting of the Board of Education will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 26.
