Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
Happy New Year! Hard to believe we are starting a new year! I tried making my new year’s resolutions challenging, but hopefully attainable, so next year I can say I made them happen. One I failed at last year was reading through the entire Bible, so it’s again on my list for 2026.
I had a great Christmas with all my family, with some spending the night Christmas Eve. There is nothing more fun than watching four little great-grands open “Santa” presents along with the younger grands. Then, my three daughters and I cook breakfast. After that, we always have the reading of Luke chapter 2 by one of the grands, which was middle granddaughter Olivia this year, followed by singing “Joy to the World.”
After that, it’s chaos with giving out presents and opening them. I think we had a record number of trash bags filled with paper this year. It always goes on my back porch for about a week to make sure we don’t have anything missing and have to search the bags! We did discover a couple of things missing, but they were found before the digging had to start. I am truly blessed to have such a wonderful family.
First 2026 bingo at Richville Volunteer Fire Department will be next Saturday, January 10, at 6:30 p.m. So come out and support your fire department and have fun doing it. They will also have concessions.
With our pastor away for the holidays, we enjoyed having Bro. Steve Dyess in the pulpit. He always does a great job of bringing an inspiring message. Several in the church have been under the weather with the flu going around so attendance was small.
With Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve being on Wednesday we have omitted regular Wednesday night service. I will be glad to get everything, including church services, back on a regular basis. Seems that every day has been Saturday for a couple of weeks!
Yes, Christmas is fun, with family get-togethers and gift giving, but we need to remember that the main reason for the season is to celebrate the birth of God’s Son, Jesus. So, my Bible verse this week is from John 3:16 which reads, “For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
While this verse is probably the best-known verse of the Bible, we often just quote it without thinking about the meaning behind it. This verse reveals the core of Christian faith. That God loved us so much that He sent His only Son to die a horrible death on the cross to save humanity from sin. However, it’s not for everyone, but only those that believe in Him will have eternal life.
The entire third chapter of John is very powerful. This verse reflects a commitment to God to gain that eternal life that He promised. It’s not free, but Jesus paid the price for us; now we only have to believe and accept Him into our heart.
So, as we enter this Christmas season we need to remember the reason for the season: Jesus!
