When the children of Israel had nearly completed 40 years of wandering in the wilderness, God provided beautiful descriptions of the promised land they would soon enter.
It was far superior to the land of Egypt from which they came out!
God also reminded the Israelites of the importance of keeping His commandments, which would open the door to His blessings.
“Therefore shall ye keep all the commandments which I command you this day, that ye may be strong, and go in and possess the land, whither ye go to possess it; And that ye may prolong your days in the land, which the LORD sware unto your fathers to give unto them and to their seed, a land that floweth with milk and honey.” – Deuteronomy 11:8-9.
The interesting aspect is that God gave extra care and attention to the promised land, as mentioned in Deuteronomy. It was very different from the previous location.
“For the land whither thou goest in to possess it, is not as the land of Egypt, from whence ye came out, where thou sowedst thy seed, and wateredst it with thy foot, as a garden of herbs: But the land, whither ye go to possess it, is a land of hills and valleys, and drinketh water of the rain of heaven.”
God then discussed the constant attention He gave to the land they would enter. There was no other land like it, which is why God desired to give it to His people.
“A land which the LORD thy God careth for: the eyes of the LORD thy God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year even unto the end of the year.” – Deuteronomy 11:12.
That sounds like a wonderful place of provision and protection. God’s eyes are on it every day of the year – from the beginning of the year until the end.
It offered the children of Israel a new beginning, so to speak, after God’s deliverance from Egyptian bondage and wandering in the wilderness.
The same could be said of us today. God delivers us from the bondage of sin and wandering in this world and brings us into a wonderful place with Him.
“He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.” – Psalms 40:2.
Just as God’s eyes were upon the land from the beginning of the year to the end, so will His presence be with us on a daily basis with the coming new year.
Some are looking for a new beginning. They can find it in Jesus Christ. He will remove our transgressions as far as the east is from the west.
When that transformation occurs, we don’t have to constantly fret and be reminded of our wicked past. We simply move forward with God in a new day and way.
“…forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 3:13-14.
The Lord brings us into a good, new land with Him. We’re a new creature in Him. He has so much for us in this new way.
He further described the promised land to the Israelites as a location where they would not lack. It was a land of God’s provision.
“For the LORD thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and depths that spring out of valleys and hills; A land of wheat, and barley, and vines, and fig trees, and pomegranates; a land of oil olive, and honey; A land wherein thou shalt eat bread without scarceness, thou shalt not lack any thing in it; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills thou mayest dig brass.” – Deuteronomy 8:7-9.
O, taste and see that the Lord is good!
