Area residents and guests seemed delighted as they enjoyed the Christmas spirit in downtown Rockford last Saturday for the town’s annual seasonal event, including the Winter Fest and annual Christmas parade.
Winter Fest highlighted activities for youth to enjoy, as well as shopping opportunities for those looking for gifts or something for themselves. From handmade baked goods and sewn items to woodwork and jewelry, shoppers had their choice of various items.
Fifteen vendors participated in the day’s event to showcase their wares and make holiday sales, and four nonprofit organizations were also setup to share information on their services.
Following a day of shopping and activities, the town held its Christmas parade, with people lining U.S. Highway 231 to watch the floats, band and more make their way through downtown.
Five floats and seven vehicles participated in this year’s parade, joined by the Central Coosa marching band; a school bus; Equality, Hanover, Ray, and Rockford volunteer fire departments; the Mullendore Fire Truck; Coosa EMS ambulance; Infinity Real Estate; and Mitchell Surveying.
After parade judges reviewed and tallied their votes, there was a three-way tie for first place in the float category. Central High School Key Club, the Coosa County Sheriff’s Office and Girl Scout Troop 6032 all received cash prizes for tying for first place.
Trophies were awarded to the vintage vehicle winners, with first place going to David Vincent for his 1940 Buick Special, second place to Kelley Stroud for his 1949 Chevrolet pickup and third place to James Stroud for his 1947 Chevrolet pickup.
Separate from the Winter Fest and parade, residents and businesses within the town limits also had the opportunity to enter a decorating contest, with winners announced last Saturday.
In that decorating contest, first place went to Kimberly Crowe, second place to Ken and Doris Raison and third place to Rebecca Biernesser-Howard, with all winners receiving cash prizes.
