A Valley man was arrested late last month in connection to multiple burglaries and thefts in the Kellyton area, as well as being wanted by other agencies for burglaries.
On November 20, Deputy Parker responded to Forbus Auto Sales in Kellyton because of a commercial burglar alarm. He checked the building, and no one was found inside.
However, Parker saw that the front door’s glass had been broken. Surveillance video from the business was downloaded and reviewed for potential suspects.
The following day, two other commercial buildings in the community, Carlisle Heating & Air Conditioning and Lake Outdoors and Marine, called the Sheriff’s Office to report burglaries. Videos from those businesses were also reviewed for suspects.
Meanwhile, on the night of November 20, Alexander City Police Department located a vehicle on the side of U.S. Highway 280 that matched the description of the one seen on the videos from the three Kellyton businesses.
Later, a Tallapoosa County deputy clocked a speeding vehicle on Highway 280. After making contact, the deputy learned that the vehicle was stolen from a dealership in the Tallapoosa County area.
Alexander City had charges on the suspect and initially arrested him there. Lt. Moon and Sheriff Michael Howell went to the Tallapoosa County Jail where he was housed and interviewed the suspect about the burglaries in Kellyton, with the car and driver both being identified by Moon from the video footage.
The individual, 32-year-old Kentavious Jamal Miles of Valley, did confess that he broke into all three Kellyton businesses.
On November 22, Deputy Moeser was dispatched to the Tallapoosa County Jail to pick up Miles on the warrants with the Coosa County Sheriff’s Office.
Ultimately Miles was arrested in Coosa County on six charges, including third-degree burglary and fourth-degree attempted theft of property for the burglary at Forbus Auto Sales, third-degree burglary and fourth-degree theft of property for the burglary at Carlisle Heating & Air Conditioning and third-degree burglary and fourth-degree attempted theft of property for the burglary at Lake Outdoors and Marine.
Miles’ total bond for all six charges was set at $28,000. He was released on November 24 to another jurisdiction.
Three other agencies; Tallapoosa County, Alexander City and Jacksons Gap; all also had burglary cases allegedly connected to Miles.
The Sheriff’s Office thanks Alexander City Police Department and the Tallapoosa County deputy for their observance that helped solve these crimes.
