It is crazy how these days creep up on us so fast.
By the time you’re reading this, only precious few shopping days remain until Christmas. How can that be?!
Thanksgiving was the same. I couldn’t believe it was that time when the annual holiday rolled around on the final Thursday of November.
Now, we’re several weeks removed from Thanksgiving.
Is it possible we could actually slow down now with our busy holiday schedules? That possibility is very doubtful.
I haven’t even started my Christmas shopping. Somebody told me the other day they had already finished it. My initial thought was, “You’ve got to be kidding me!”
The days seem to be flying by. Is that because I’m just getting older? Or is it because time is actually accelerating?
The Bible talks about the days being shortened for the elect’s sake. With time seemingly traveling at warp speed, it’s good to prioritize what is important.
Fishing.
I mentioned that because it has dual meaning and purpose.
The fishing is always good this time of the year – both in the natural and spiritual. We’ll focus for a time here on the spiritual, though striper are likely hot at Lake Martin.
“Behold, I will send for many fishers, saith the Lord, and they shall fish them; and I will send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks.” – Jeremiah 16:16.
In other words, go tell it on the mountain.
As Christians, we always emphasize evangelism efforts – which is very much Biblical.
Christmas-time always seems to be a perfect fit for evangelism. For starters, many people seem to be more open to hearing about Jesus Christ. After all, Christmas is all about “our dear Savior’s birth.”
The traditional and beautiful songs are played over and over… “repeat the sounding joy.”
The joy is in the air. It is the most wonderful time of the year to share the most beautiful message of all. Oh, the wonder of it all.
There was no room for them at the inn. But is there room in our hearts for Jesus to come in? He stands at the door and knocks.
Wise men still seek him. They provided the very best gifts available to Jesus – gold, frankincense and myrrh.
But truly, this baby was God’s greatest gift to man. “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” – Romans 6:23.
“Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.” – II Corinthians 9:15.
Oh, come let us adore Him!
Christmas songs have special meaning. They touch our hearts with God’s truth of His Son in flesh appearing, along with the many memories they evoke of special times shared by family and friends, and the time of the season, in general.
The hearts of men are no doubt open to the gospel message this time of the year.
We can pray for opportunities for God to swing the doors wide open to share the message and testify of what God has done for us through Christ Jesus.
Invite them to church, tell them Jesus loves them, smile at them and have compassion on them.
Show them and tell them about Jesus, who came here to save the vilest of sinners and a wretch like me.
He truly is Emmanuel, God with us.
He first came as a baby, and He will return as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Will we be ready?
