The Board of Education approved a handful of action items on its agenda during another relatively short meeting for October.
In certified recommendations, with a letter of recommendation from Kara Forbus, Central Elementary School principal, the Board approved hiring Jonathan Brody Hyatt as an elementary teacher for the 2025-2026 school year, with a start date of November 10. This was approved pending him meeting all requirements, as well as obtaining an Emergency Certification.
Board Member Jenny Kimbrell recused herself from voting, and the remaining four Board members approved the hire. However, names of individuals involved in personnel matters on the agenda are not made publicly available until the meeting minutes are approved at the next Board meeting.
In other personnel matters, the Board unanimously approved Jennifer Ayers as a substitute teacher/aide for the 2025-2026 school year.
The Board also unanimously approved a Dual Enrollment for Dual Credit Agreement with Central Alabama Community College, or CACC. This agreement enables eligible high school students to dually earn credits for both a high school diploma and a post-secondary educational credential.
In discussion it was explained that dual enrollment classes are offered to tenth through twelfth grade students that meet the requirements of having a minimum 2.5 grade point average.
In other business, the Board entertained a motion to nominate a voting delegate and an alternative delegate to represent the Board during the 2025 Delegate Assembly to be held at the Annual Alabama Association of School Boards Convention to be held December 4-6.
Board Member Sharon Coffman nominated Tiffany McCain as the delegate and Kimbrell as the alternative. The Board unanimously approved those two nominations.
