Equality & Nixburg News
Jennifer Williamson
I was able to get a lot of yard work done, cleared out my garden and considered repurposing the area as I honestly have no time to garden these days. I may move my chicken coop and run to that spot or turn it into a small orchard and berry patch.
But what started out as a very warm weekend suddenly turned on Monday, and I could feel the wind bringing cold weather in fast in the afternoon.
Tuesday morning I just couldn’t shake that cold, and we had one very frigid Veterans Day. I got chilled to the bone and wasn’t able to enjoy the sunshine in the afternoon. I never did handle cold very well, but don’t remember being that set back by one frigid night and morning.
And the winds took down the last wall on the greenhouse that was Rodger’s Shrubbery next door to Jenny’s General. Was going to get a tractor to take down the propane heater first, but the winds were strong enough to just blow it all down. I will be working on cleaning that up, along with the pressure-treated wood that was once the greenhouse frame.
The quilting group is meeting every Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jenny’s General Store. Several people in the group are working on a log cabin pattern, which is great for every level of experience. Others are working on independent projects, using both machines and hand stitching.
I will be finishing some quilts started by Rodger’s grandmother; some will be tied and some hand quilted. I have one I started seven years ago, and I think that one I will machine quilt. It is a good time to socialize and share our skills with each other.
Please continue to support other ongoing activities, as well, such as by Kendrick Memorial Baptist Church’s yard sale, held most Saturdays starting at 8 a.m. Address is 5152 Alabama Highway 9 in case you haven’t noticed it driving on Highway 9.
Elaine Rutledge of Nixburg hosts Rummikub at the Alexander City Senior Center in the Sportplex every first and third Friday starting at 10 a.m.
November and December Equality Neighborhood Watch meeting will be combined to one date, Thursday, December 11. We will start at a new earlier time of 5 p.m. Please join us for community news and a great meal and fellowship.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
