Breast Cancer Awareness Month is ending. However, breast cancer is not until we find a cure. So let us continue to pray without ceasing, and for all types of cancer.
Union Square wishes the best journalist and more a very happy birthday, Christa Jennings.
Birthday wishes go to Pastor Stanford Benson, Pastor Chris Hill, Mrs. C.K. May, Sylvia Anderson, Bridgett Hill, Lady Lee, and to all other October born.
Happy birthday in memory of Mother Pauline Norris-Thomas, Pastor Michael White, Mrs. Effie Lee, and Bernice Hoyett-Wood.
It might seem like I am bragging on Pastor Wilbert Johnson because he is my nephew, but the things I write about him are true facts. Other pastors and friends spoke nothing but truth about him. Wilbert was the type of guy that everyone loved; you could not help but to love him.
He was always happy. He never let anything get him down, even on his sick bed. He laid down, but never went down. His spirit was so awesome, he sang and preached in his bed until God told him to come on and sing with the angels in heaven.
Some of the speakers said, “If you didn’t love Wilbert, something was wrong with you.” He knew how to make his enemies love him.
Wilbert was a big-hearted family man. He loved his family and did everything to keep them together and happy. As I said before, he was a road map for family, helping them find their way to love and joy.
Being raised in the same home with me and some siblings made us a closer knit family.
His home-going service was very special. I cried the entire service, knowing he was alright and at peace; however, I cried because I miss him.
Wilbert’s pastor, Pastor Robert Duncan, did an awesome job with preaching his eulogy from I King, “A Handpick by God.” Wilbert was handpicked by God, a little boy from Rockford who traveled over the world and came back to Rockford to do God’s will.
He preached and sang. He fought a good fight, finished his course and kept the faith.
Pastor Duncan said God seldom uses the mighty to accomplish His purpose. He uses those who depend entirely on Him, and that was Wilbert.
Heroes aren’t wise men. We are heroes when we trust God’s hand and point others to His provision. Wilbert was one of those heroes, and all the pastors who spoke about Wilbert let that be known.
Pastor Autry Powell knew Wilbert from years ago while both of them were in the world, before becoming preachers, and he (Powell) saw something special about Wilbert, a charming spirit that could charm anyone and a great attitude and personality.
That was my nephew, Pastor Wilbert Johnson. We are truly missing him!
