Ruby Johnson

Me and my two sons, Bernard and Kareem, and my two great-grandchildren, Chelsey and Chayce, at the celebration of my parents.
Ruby is back from vacation with some of her bold writing. Some readers won’t appreciate my boldness, and some will; either way, it’s time again to speak up with the truth.
That is what’s missing before the year ends, in only two and a half months. Wow, time is really flying, and we cannot catch it. So let’s speak now or hold your peace.
God is truly blessing Rockford, and I thank Him. It has been said “it can’t be done” by negative people and nonbelievers. “When God is in it there is no limit.” Rockford is growing. Let us grow with it, people of Coosa County, and stop all of the negative talk.
We thank God for the great leaders who are with the growth, and you know and we know who you are. Keep doing what you are doing to help take Rockford to a higher place.
Congratulations to Leeboys Barbecue, so very proud of you – wonderful people and great food. I have not been inside to eat yet, but I ate some of the food, and it was super good.
My son was home from New York to help celebrate the legacy of my parents. He bought food from there, and it was so good he wanted to stay in Alabama a while longer to eat more of the food, though he doesn’t like Rockford to live. He said, “Ma, do you think they would come to New York and start a business?”
The celebration of my parents’ legacy was so awesome that everyone is still talking about it and want it to be an annual thing. I said it’s good, but someone else will have to host it! LOL I am still tired and was under the weather the day of it. But God!
This was so great and big that my column might be a two-part series. It’s sad to say, but it has been said before that Black people cannot have a gathering without problems, fighting, etc., but that is far from the truth. There were more than 100 people in attendance, and that’s not all of the family.
There was more than enough good soul food catered from Ed’s Deli on Goodwater and great music played by Shawn McGhee and Carvodus Alexander, the best DJs of Alabama, and the best video guy alive, Tony Benson.
Happy birthday to Shawn McGhee, my son Kareem, Lydia Waters, and to all October born.
Prayer list: Pastor Wilbert Johnson, the Goggans family, the family of Pastor Eddie Jennings, and to all who are going through a mourning season. Continue praying for our country.
“But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear Him, and His righteousness unto children’s children.” – Psalm 103:17
“Let not your heart be troubled.”

Me (right) and my longtime friend at the celebration of my parents’ legacy. My friend Frankie Mae gave a little history of her friend Ruby Jo’s mom!
