Equality & Nixburg News
Jennifer Williamson
We have the two livestock guardian dogs we were considering at the homestead now. I am sorry if they have visited you when they get out of our fenced-in yard.
The darn 2-year-old Antonian Pyrenees is smart as a whip and has learned to open the gate and even figured out how to untie the rope that was added as a second measure. We have added chains until the new gates we ordered are in and installed. We have also scheduled them for spaying, which should keep them from wandering, but when chasing predators, they will still try and pursue even if that means jumping the fence.
Don’t worry, they are very friendly; they just don’t like anything that tries to attack our livestock, and recently they have chased what we assume is a raccoon several nights in a row. I might have to run a line of hot wire to keep them from getting into the road and down to the neighbors’ yards, but have been reassured that once they are spayed, they will settle into staying on our property.
Jenny’s General has updated their bathroom. I know, not really exciting news, but a nice change for those that do need to use it. Still working out if having healthy snack options will work. Feedback from a few said they would shop here for healthy snack options, but foot traffic is still very low so concerned about investing so much money in something that will not sell.
That is the dilemma of many businesspersons. Stock is bought and paid for before it sits on the shelves; money out of our pockets that is only regained if the items sell. Maybe getting some samples in and doing a tasting might attract customers, but then again 6 years in Equality and locals haven’t even stepped through the door, so if I can’t attract locals how am I supposed to attract regular customers to keep the doors open?
