Like their previous week’s win against the Horseshoe Bend Generals, the Central Cougars showed once again that they have the endurance to come back strong in the second half.
This is a testament to the program Coach Flowers is building that includes strength training, daily practices and play dates in the summer to build a stronger team for the fall. The turnaround of the football program is even more evident when you consider Central lost to Ranburne the last three times we played them.
The score was Ranburne 14, Central 6 as the two teams went into halftime with Cory Thompson scoring the only touchdown in the first half. But like last week, the Cougars came out strong in the second half, blowing past Ranburne with a final score of 50 to 14.
The Cougars got their momentum going when eleventh grader Michael Johnson sacked the quarterback, who fumbled the ball, with eleventh grader Zavion Abston recovering the fumble, giving the Cougars possession.
Twelfth grader Arqualis Robinson also had a fumble recovery which resulted in a 60-yard run, scoring the final touchdown of the game.
Thank you to our coaching staff led by head coach Daniel Flowers, as well as Dr./Coach Conkle, Coach Hunter and Coach Bell for everything you do to support our student athletes.
Thank you, also, to our band, cheer and dance teams for continually supporting our team and keeping the crowd pumped out.
