On Tuesday Attorney General Steve Marshall announced that the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals has affirmed the convictions of Tevin W. Robinson, 33, of Titus, on two counts of criminally negligent homicide and two counts of second-degree assault. Robinson was convicted in Elmore County Circuit Court on July 25, 2024.
Evidence at trial showed that on April 30, 2022, state troopers responded to a major traffic collision on U.S. Highway 231 outside Wetumpka. They found the driver of one vehicle dead from her injuries, and a 7-year-old girl who was a passenger in Robinson’s vehicle also died at the scene.
The investigation determined that Robinson, driving a van, crossed the center line and struck two vehicles, killing the two victims. Robinson was overheard at the scene saying, “Oh, my God. What did I do? What did I do?” Illegal drugs were found in Robinson’s vehicle, and he admitted to smoking marijuana before the crash.
Elmore County District Attorney C.J. Robinson’s office successfully prosecuted the case and obtained guilty verdicts. Robinson was sentenced to terms ranging from one to 10 years in prison for each conviction. He later sought to have the convictions overturned on appeal.
The Attorney General’s Criminal Appeals Division handled the case during the appeals process, arguing for the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals to uphold Robinson’s convictions. The Court issued its decision Friday, August 15, 2025.
Attorney General Marshall commended Assistant Attorney General Laura Irby Cuthbert for her successful work on the case and thanked District Attorney C.J. Robinson and his staff for their valuable assistance in defending the convictions.
