The Lake Martin Area United Way, which serves Coosa and Tallapoosa counties, is inviting the public to help kick off its 2026 campaign.
The United Way’s 2026 campaign theme is “Hands United, Hearts Aligned,” and it will kick off on Monday, August 25, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The public is invited to join United Way and Russell Brands, its campaign pacesetter, as they kick off the new campaign year at the City of Alexander City Municipal Complex. The facility is located off of U.S. Highway 280 behind Chick-fil-A.
The event will run from 5:30 to 7 p.m., and tickets are $20 per person and include heavy appetizers, one drink ticket and entertainment by Scott Blake. United Way explains that the ticket price covers its costs so that more funds can go back into the community.
Those wishing to attend are encouraged to purchase their tickets in advance online, but United Way will also take cash at the door for the event, for those wishing to purchase at the door.
For more information on the campaign kickoff or to purchase tickets, visit www.unitedwaylakemartin.org/kickoff.
This month the Lake Martin Area United Way is also benefiting from a weekly fundraiser through charity bingo at Niffer’s at Lake Martin in Dadeville.
Charity bingo starts at 6 p.m. every Tuesday in August, with it costing $1 per bingo card. Each week there are eight rounds in total, with the last round being for a cash prize.
Proceeds from the charity bingo will benefit the 2026 United Way Annual Campaign. Individuals are encouraged to get to Niffer’s in Dadeville early to get a seat, grab a bite to eat, play bingo, and have fun while helping support the local United Way.
While they are just gearing up to kick off the new year’s campaign, LMAUW already has another fundraising event on its calendar for the public to enjoy while helping support United Way.
The LMAUW will hold an 80s-themed murder mystery dinner, titled “I Love the 80s to Death,” at 6 p.m. on September 11 at The Mill 280.
Guests can dress up 80s style to set the mood for the event’s theme, and they will have the opportunity to try to solve the crime before the meal is over.
Tickets, as well as reserved tables and sponsorships, are available. Tickets are limited for this event and will not be sold at the door, so those interested are encouraged to get their tickets early.
Individual tickets are $75 each, and a reserved table for up to eight people is $600. United Way is using the online platform Zeffy for online ticket sales, and those who prefer to pay by cash or check can contact or visit their office to purchase tickets.
For more information on the murder mystery dinner fundraiser, visit www.unitedwaylakemartin.org/mystery or call the Lake Martin Area United Way office at 256-329-3600.
