A Celebration of Life for Edward Leon Gilbert was held Friday, July 25, 2025, at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Equality. Rev. Jesse H. Scott Jr. conducted the eulogy. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Edward Leon Gilbert was born on January 22, 1963, to the late Mr. Lewis Ervin Gilbert and Mrs. Mary Louise Gilbert in Equality. He peacefully transitioned from this life, having lived a life marked by faith, service, and deep love for family.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Lewis and Mary Gilbert, and five brothers, Larry, Kenny, Early, Jerome, and Joe Gilbert, all of Equality.
At an early age Edward confessed Christ as his Lord and Savior and joined Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Equality. He was a dedicated and faithful member, serving in the role of deacon with honor and humility until his passing.
In 1998 Edward was united in holy matrimony to Angela Gilbert. Their union was one of love, partnership, and shared faith. To this union Edward leaves behind a legacy og love in his three cherished daughters, Lakesha (John) Edwards of Equality, Brittany (Aaron) Pinkston of Montgomery and Mariah Gilbert of Equality; and one special nephew, Terrance Gilbert of Millbrook that he raised as a son.
He is also survived by one devoted brother, Terry Gilbert of Equality; three adored grandchildren, Makenlee Hollenquest of Equality, and Aaron Jr. and Ahlani Pinkston of Montgomery.
Edward’s memory will be fondly remembered by his extended family, including three sisters-in-law, Rhonda (Billy) Laney of Alexander City, Falicia Gilbert of Wallsboro, and Jean Gilbert of Equality. He is also survived by one brother-in-law, Joey Hollenquest of Titus.
He leaves a host of loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and his beloved church family. A very special cousin, Michael (Diane) Watts of Equality, held a particularly close place in his heart.
Edward will be remembered for his unwavering faith, kind spirit, and deep love for his family and community. His legacy of service and compassion will live on in the lives of all who knew and loved him.
Final arrangements were entrusted to Hillside Memorial and Gardens in Wetumpka.
