On July 23, Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) Law Enforcement Service Division agents and K-9 handlers were conducting a checkpoint on vehicles arriving at Limestone Correctional
Facility in Harvest.
During the free air sniff, two assigned canines alerted to the possibility of narcotics on a sedan driven by Correctional Security Guard Shawnia Williams, a new hire.
A hand search of the vehicle was conducted, and approximately 1.5 gross grams of marijuana and a digital scale were collected.
Williams was arrested and transported to the Limestone County jail where she was charged with second-degree possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The ADOC investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be pending.
“The ADOC continues to combat illegal contraband being introduced to the state’s correctional facilities, whether it is introduced from the inside or the outside,” ADOC Commissioner John Q. Hamm stated. “There is no place for corrupt personnel at ADOC.”
