During a special called meeting late last month the Town of Kellyton unanimously approved making a donation to the fire department and approved other matters related to the municipal complex.
In discussion, it was mentioned that last year the Town Council approved paying $15,000 toward the liability insurance for the Kellyton Volunteer Fire Department, or Kellyton Fire and Rescue, because of its funding being “cut significantly” because of the county ambulance service being established.
It was reported that the total amount paid by Kellyton VFD was $15,825 last October for its insurance.
As an agenda item, the Council was asked to consider making a donation toward the department’s liability insurance again this year. It was stated that the department still remains “significantly affected” by the county service.
Following discussion, the Council unanimously approved making a donation of $15,000 to the fire department for its liability insurance coverage, with the funds being paid from the town’s operational account.
Regarding the municipal complex, Town Clerk Karen Keel reported that she received a quote from Jeremy Fuller, who installed all the other cameras at the complex for monitoring purposes. The town requested a quote for an additional camera to be placed in the gym and connected to the current board along with the other cameras already in place.
Fuller provided a quote of $550 for the additional camera, as well as wiring, connectors and labor. The Council unanimously approved accepting his quote and going forward with the purchase and installation of the camera.
Also pertaining to the municipal complex, Mayor Johnny Sharpe met with Rick Jones and a door company regarding the numerous issues the town has been experiencing with the doors of the complex.
Sharpe received an estimate of $43,700 for the outside doors, as well as some inside doors, to be replaced with new doors with panic bars, for a total of 13 doors. The estimate includes a $20,000 deposit.
During discussion it was explained that, if approved, everything would go through Jones, with the door company providing the doors and Jones being the contractor on the job.
Following discussion and review, the Council unanimously approved the estimate and awarding the job to Jones. It was also stated that $10,000 of the deposit would be taken out of the town’s capital improvement fund.
In other business, the Council briefly considered the town’s annual Christmas Celebration, with it being stated that if the town held it again this year the event would be December 6. The Council unanimously approved setting the date for the event and having Town Clerk Keel proceed with ordering supplies and sending vendor letters.
The Kellyton Town Council did not meet this month because of some being out of town the first week of July.
The next regularly scheduled monthly meeting of the Kellyton Town Council will be held at 6 p.m. August 5.
