The Alabama State Department of Education released the reading scores for third graders for the Alabama Comprehensive Assessment Program, or ACAP, in June.
At the initial release of the scores the state average was 88% and Central Elementary scored an 86 %, on par with Stephens Elementary in Alexander City who also scored an 86% and above Pinecrest in Sylacauga who scored an 84%.
After a month of intensive learning during the no-fee summer Literacy Camp at CES, four additional third graders are now on grade level, bringing the CES average to 93%.
The ACAP reading results for third graders have extra significance since the Literacy Act was passed in 2019. Alabama students who are not reading on grade level at the conclusion of their third grade year will be retained according to the law.
Thank you to the students, teachers, administration, and parents who are working so hard with our students to ensure they are reading on grade level.
