Equality & NIxburg News
Jennifer Williamson
As a small business owner, I decided to hire another small business owner who is just starting out to paint the front of Jenny’s General. Yates Paint and More took my inspirational picture and got to work.
First was a good power wash, then the body color and trim color. There is still a second trim color to go, but I am already loving the new look.
I am already speaking with Yates Paint and More about updating the sign and over the roof area, as well. After the greenhouse is down, they will do that side and back; however, for the South side of the building Rodger wants a musically inspired mural so we will leave that for now.
Inside the store I am installing a mini split unit since the wall-mounted units have failed many times over the past six years, including the second one installed after the first unit failed. Time for a new change, and the mini split heat pump will cool the store in the summer and heat in the winter and take up very little space. And cooling the store in this summer heat will be a very great thing indeed.
On the homestead I started mowing down the garden since the pigweed took over. Going to change things up since I need to move the gate further in.
The original gate design was to be in further, but the installer shortened it without my approval, and my husband was not aware when he signed off on their completion. I need the truck to be able to pull it off the road so I can open the gate. Moving the gate, I will shorten my veggie garden and plant another pollinator garden. This will reflect the other side of the gate for a more symmetrical aesthetic. This might also be more pleasing to look at for my neighbors instead of wild pigweed, sunchokes and honeysuckle vines.
Did you stop by the yard sale that benefits Kendrick Memorial Baptist Church last Saturday morning? Look out for them on future Saturday mornings because you never know what treasure you will find, and all proceeds benefit the church.
Please plan on joining us for the Equality Neighborhood Watch meeting on the fourth Thursday of the month, July 24, at 6:30 p.m. Dinner is provided by Dave Dial. You can bring a dish if you like or make a small donation, but no obligation; we just want our neighbors to be informed and participate in keeping our community safe.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
