Willie Jo Palmer Blankenship
Willie Jo Palmer Blankenship, age 90, of Sylacauga, passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2025. Willie was born in Weogufka.
Willie Jo is survived by her sons, Terry Palmer (Tonya), Mike Palmer (Angie), Bill Pahler; sister, Linda Palmer (Melvin); and a large number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Willie Jo was preceded in death by her first husband, Arlie Alton Palmer “Buck;” second husband, Offie Blankenship “Red;” parents, Judson Taft Calloway and Mary Edna Carter Calloway; and sisters, Glenda Pope, Kay Ayers and Betty Calloway.
Willie Jo was a good mother. She had a strong Christian faith, with a positive outlook on life and people she came in contact with. Willie Jo enjoyed fishing, especially to catch her favorite meal of catfish. She loved dancing with her sons and had beloved pets, Tiny and Bear, who loved her to death.
Willie Jo will be missed by all who loved her.
A visitation for Willie Jo was held Monday, July 14, 2025, at Radney-Smith Funeral Home, Sylacauga, followed by a funeral service.
Willie was laid to rest in Old Weogufka Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Keith Chandler, Chris Ewing, Clay Stewart, Michael Perez, Wade Clark, Stewart Isbell, Paul Jones, Skeeter Conn, and Jayden Vega.

Charlotte Stewart Scroggins
Funeral services for Mrs. Charlotte Inez Stewart Scroggins, 92, of Alexander City, was Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Pastor Tim Harris officiated. Burial followed at Hillview Memorial Park.
Mrs. Scroggins passed away on July 12, 2025, at Chapman’s Nursing Home. She was born in Goodwater to Hughlett Linton Stewart and Myrtle Mae Mason Stewart on February 19, 1933. She was a 1951 graduate of Benjamin Russell High School. She was also a faithful member of Comer Memorial Baptist Church.
She is survived by her children: Jeffrey Vernon Scroggins (Cindy) of Jackson’s Gap and Jennifer Scroggins Spraggins (Tommy) of Alexander City; four grandchildren: Elizabeth Scroggins Craig (Alex) of Huntsville, Robert Scroggins of Alexander City, Lauren Spraggins Jennette (Matt) of Homewood, and Jill Spraggins Hill (Ryan) of Auburn; great-grandsons: Hudson Hill and Haynes Craig; great-granddaughters: Hannah Hill, Hollis Hill, Julia Jennette, and Janie Jennette; sister-in-law: Eleanor Still; step-granddaughter: Kaci Patterson Letts (Andrew); and step-great-grandchildren: Parker Ann Gaston, Caroline Letts, Drew Letts, and Ellis Jennette.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Vernon “Corky” Scroggins; one brother, Hughlett Stewart; five sisters, Falbie Bussey, Clara Whitehead, Sara Lindsey, Margaret Gertrude Sanford, Patricia Talton; and step-granddaughter, Leslie Patterson Gaston.
The family will receive flowers or donations may be made to the Comer Memorial Baptist Church; 341 E. Church Street; Alexander City, AL 35010; or to one’s favorite charity.
