Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
Summer with afternoon thunderstorms and high heat is in full swing. Next Friday is the Fourth of July, so a long weekend. Please be safe if you are traveling. If you are enjoying the pool or lake, be sure to take all the safety precautions. Accidents happen so fast.
Kelly’s Crossroads is back open for business with new owners. Jason and Jamie Thornton purchased the store after the passing of Mr. Bud. They spent the last few months cleaning and renovating. It looks so good! They are open Monday-Saturday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Some variation may be made for different seasons of the year.
If you don’t know, it’s located at the intersection of Alabama Highway 22 and Coosa County Road 29 about 8 miles west of Rockford. It’s where the caution light is!
They have all the convenience stuff you need for a day at the lake or just a quick snack. They will be possibly adding worms and other products, also. They also are stocking “Bud’s” steaks! If you know you know!
They have a deli which serves various biscuits for breakfast. The bacon and cheese ones are delicious, speaking from experience. They also have various sandwiches along with homemade sides of potato salad, coleslaw and pimento cheese. There are several types of chicken salad available, also.
I tried the Hawaiian BBQ Chicken Salad, and it was delicious. So give them a try! Service is friendly and quick.
The next Bingo at the Richville Volunteer Fire Department will be July 26 at 6:30 p.m., so make plans to attend. There will be concessions, too. We always have a good time even if you don’t win a prize.
Providence Baptist Church had a great VBS last week. Families came out on the last night and enjoyed seeing what their children had been doing. A slideshow of activities was presented along with refreshments afterward.
Summer school is now officially over! Before you know it, school will resume on August 5. So enjoy the month of July!
The “Old Rock Jail” will be open this Sunday, then close for the summer months of July and August. If you haven’t visited come by and check out the oldest rock jail in Alabama.
The Historical Society’s next meeting will be on July 27 at 2 p.m. at the Rockford Senior Center. More about that in future columns.
My Bible verse this week is about family love. Proverbs 17:6 reads, “Children’s children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children.”
Grandchildren are special! We are grandparents who take pride in all that they do. But children should be proud of their parents, also. They have accomplished a lot to raise you to the person and parent you are today, sometimes by good examples and sadly sometimes by bad. But God is emphasizing to us to live the kind of lives that our children will be proud to be related to us.
Be in prayer for the ones that have lost a loved one and that are sick in our community. But also, think about giving someone a call just to say hello; it will make a difference in their day. Many times, when we go out to spread blessings to others, it’s us that gets the blessing.
