Judy Voss has announced her retirement after 38 years of employment with the Coosa County Board of Education.
Voss began her career with the Board in 1987 as the chief financial officer, although things were quite different back then.
“Our office was located in the courthouse where we had just one computer, and it was only capable of receiving emails,” Voss recalled. “All of our accounting activity was recorded by hand. As time slowly progressed, so did technology. Working together we all adapted.”
“The one thing that has remained constant is the teamwork environment found at Coosa County Schools,” she said. “It has been an honor to be a part of an organization who’s goal is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for our children as they grow personally and academically along their way to achieving high school success and beyond.”
Following her retirement as CFO, Voss continued to work part time for the Board, providing support as an accountant.
“Although we now have numerous computers, it’s a daily race to keep up with additional governmental red tape,” she said.
“Now here it is, 2025,” Voss said. “Where did all the time go? This place has been my home away from home for the majority of my life. My coworkers are family. Thank you, Coosa County Schools, for providing me the opportunity to work with and get to know so many people who have become dear friends. And thank you all who have worked so hard to make my job easier.
“The night I graduated from high school I cried a little because I knew I would truly miss my friends and my way of life; I loved everything about school. So, I imagine I will shed a few tears once again when this door of life closes, too… You can remind me that I said this sometime while my toes are buried deep in the sand at my favorite spot on the beach.”
