Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
The Richville Volunteer Fire Department’s Bingo will be this Saturday, May 10, at 6:30 p.m.
Also, the fire department will be selling Boston Butts again this year for Memorial Day weekend. They will be $35. Pickup will be on Saturday, May 24, from 7 to 9 a.m. See any fire department member for tickets as they always sell out. Also, the Neighborhood Watch will be selling baked goods again that morning.
Concord Baptist Church had a great turnout for its homecoming last week. Providence Baptist Church will have its homecoming on June 1. Service will begin at 10:30 a.m. with special music provided by Promised Land. Bro. Jeff Hardy will bring the message, followed by a fellowship meal.
The Old Rock Jail will not be open this Sunday since it’s Mother’s Day. It is now open on Sundays from 2 to 4 p.m. except Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. Then it will be closed for the months of July and August and reopen in September.
The Rockford Spring Fling at the Park is May 31 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. They will have vendors, food trucks, music, and inflatable water slide for the kids. So make plans to attend. It will be located around Jackson Street and Nixburg Road at the Rockford playground.
The Coosa County Historical Society is seeking donations to purchase the necessary equipment to digitize all our records, newsletters, etc. Donations may be mailed to Coosa County Historical Society; P.O. Box 5; Rockford, AL 35136. This will prevent the loss of these records, as well as make them easily searched. All donations are tax deductible.
Sunday is Mother’s Day! It is celebrated in more than 40 countries on different days, but most are in March or May. There are many different names and celebrations in other countries, but the United States calls it “Mother’s Day,” which began in the early 20th century. It wasn’t until 1914 that it became a national holiday when President Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation designating the second Sunday in May to honor mothers.
Again, this week my Bible verses are about mothers. Proverbs 31:28-29 read, “Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.”
I could say much more about motherhood and being a mother, but as I said last week, giving birth does not make you a mother. This is the second Mother’s Day without my mama, and it is almost two years since she passed away. There is so much I would like to share with her.
So, if you still have your mother, call or visit and tell her you love her as often as you can. I’m so thankful for my family who share their love for me often. I realize I’m so blessed to have most of my family close by.
Be in prayer for all those that are sick in our community. But also, think about giving someone a call just to say hello; it will make a difference in their day. Many times, when we go out to spread blessings to others, it’s us that gets the blessing.
Organizations in the area, as well as churches, I need your events! If your family has some news or an event to share, please contact me. I would prefer text to 334-414-7147 or emails to wardgrand6@gmail.com, but phone calls will be fine, too. If you don’t get me when you call, be sure to leave a message.
