Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
It’s May! Happy birthday to all the May babies, especially my oldest daughter who celebrates this month.
May is a busy month with Mother’s Day, graduations, end of school, and Memorial Day. All the kids and teachers are getting excited about being out for the summer.
Concord Baptist Church; located at 1309 Coosa County Road 10 south of Rockford on Highway 231, turn left on County Road 14; will be having homecoming this Sunday, May 4, beginning at 10:30 a.m. They are celebrating 180 years of service! Bro. Jimmy Brown will bring the message and special music by Randall & Joe, a bluegrass duo. There will be a fellowship meal following the services.
Don’t forget the Old Rock Jail is now open on Sundays from 2 to 4 p.m., except Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. Then it will be closed for the months of July and August and reopen in September.
The Richville Volunteer Fire Department’s next Bingo will be on Saturday, May 10, at 6:30 p.m., which is the Saturday before Mother’s Day.
Also, the fire department will be selling Boston Butts again this year for Memorial Day weekend. Pickup will be on Saturday, May 24, from 7 to 9 a.m. See any fire department member for tickets as they always sell out. Also, the Neighborhood Watch will be selling baked goods again that morning.
The Coosa County Historical Society is seeking donations to purchase the necessary equipment to digitize all our records, newsletters, etc. Donations may be mailed to Coosa County Historical Society; P.O. Box 5; Rockford, AL 35136. This will prevent the loss of these records, as well as make them easily searched. All donations are tax deductible.
This week and next week’s Bible verses will be about mothers. Proverbs 31:10 reads, “Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.”
This verse is about the significance of being a Godly woman, not just a mother. A woman strong by wisdom, grace and filled with the Holy Spirit is a powerful quality with a value that is beyond measure. All women are not mothers, but all mothers are women! There are many women that may not experience childbirth, but are considered mothers.
Just giving birth to a child does not make you a mother, which is a title that must be earned with love. Many take on the role with adoption and marriage, while some just take up the slack that is needed. I’ve known several women that filled the role of mother because the child’s mother was lacking or missing. So, while this verse speaks about all women, I like to think that being a mother requires a virtuous woman.
Be in prayer for all those that are sick in our community. But also, think about giving someone a call just to say hello; it will make a difference in their day. Many times, when we go out to spread blessings to others, it’s us that gets the blessing.
Organizations in the area, as well as churches, I need your events! If your family has some news or an event to share, please contact me. I would prefer text to 334-414-7147 or emails to wardgrand6@gmail.com, but phone calls will be fine, too. If you don’t get me when you call, be sure to leave a message.
