Equality & NIxburg News
Jennifer Williamson
Rodger watched the store for me so I could spend a whole weekend getting things done in the yard before the Alabama heat and humidity kick in, making it too unbearable for me to work outdoors for too long.
I feel quite accomplished even though I still have not gotten that root situation dealt with so I can move the fence section around the water meter. But that will happen soon.
We have had an opossum raiding nests, and I have not been happy about it. But it upped its game and killed a turkey hen who was broody and on a nest. We are also missing another broody hen; found her nest with her gone and several eggs cracked open and eaten.
We are setting traps every night. Tired of them finding a place to stay in the vacant house next door and coming over to feast on my livestock. Fencing is not stopping them, but need to find a way to protect my hens.
I had to travel for business this past week. I hate business travel, but at least I have a job so it is the price I have to pay to make my boss happy. While I was gone I missed the Equality Neighborhood Watch meeting and hope you all went and enjoyed the dinner and fellowship with our Equality neighbors.
Once again, the EVFD will be selling butts/ribs for Memorial Day weekend in May. Reserve yours today by contacting Jackie at 256-7861169 or Jean at 256-537-1884. Call today because EVFD has sold out the last few years, and as you know, it’s really good! Thanks for your continued support.
Coosa County Live has a live performance tonight, April 25, from the band Wasted Time. Their band members are from the Alexander City area and trying to get some exposure and requested to perform this month.
The guitarist, Cane, was part of the house band when he was in high school, and the lead singer, Stevie, was also part of the house band, as well as hosted a Halloween karaoke night a few years ago. She is full of energy and loves to sing. So come out and enjoy some live music as it may be the last performance for the foreseeable future.
First Saturday is May 3, so get making those baked goods to donate to the bake sale. Donations for breakfast, lunch, bake sale, and rummage sale all go to support the efforts needed to keep our fire department well equipped and growing to support our community.
It starts at 8 a.m. and closes at 1 p.m. Come early and stay or come early and return for lunch. Either way you won’t be disappointed with the fellowship and support of our community.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
