Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
I forgot last week to wish happy birthday to all those celebrating this month. Hard to believe we are in the fourth month of the year. Easter is this month, so we do have a holiday.
The Richville Volunteer Fire Department and Neighborhood Watch Spring Fling on Saturday was a great success. We had a good turnout with a lot of fun by everyone. It was followed by Bingo with a large crowd for it, also.
The next Bingo will be on Saturday, May 10, at 6:30 p.m. That is the Saturday before Mother’s Day, so put it on your calendar.
Also, the fire department will be selling Boston Butts again this year for Memorial Day weekend. Pickup will be on Saturday, May 24, from 7 to 9 a.m. See any fire department member for tickets as they always sell out. Also, the Neighborhood Watch will be selling baked goods that morning.
The workday at the Old Rockford School had a good turnout, and a lot was accomplished. They are planning another workday on May 17 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Old Rock Jail is now open on Sunday afternoons from 2 to 4 p.m. except for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and the months of July and August. We then reopen the weekend after Labor Day in September until the end of October. Admission is $3 per person with children under 12 free.
The Town of Rockford will host an Easter egg hunt tomorrow, April 12, at 10 a.m. It will be at the football field on Nixburg Road. In May they will host their Spring Fling Vendor event; more details later.
Richville lost another pillar of the community with the passing of Mrs. Nellie Ferguson this past week. She was very active in the community, as well as the Rockford Senior Center until her health declined. She never met a stranger and always had something to say!
She will be missed. Condolences to her family and friends. She and Mr. Joe Collins were two of the longest living members of our community.
Last week was the first Bible verse this month about Easter. This week’s verse is I Peter 1:3 which reads, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”
What should an appropriate response be to God’s great mercy? Praise. This verse begins as a blessing to God and how He has blessed us in Christ.
Through the resurrection of Christ, our hope is not a wish, but is alive just as Christ is alive. We are blessed with eternal life, full of glory forever. Even when things are discouraging, we have reason to rejoice.
Be in prayer for all those that are sick in our community. But also, think about giving someone a call just to say hello; it will make a difference in their day. Many times, when we go out to spread blessings to others, it’s us that gets the blessing.
