People with disabilities, caregivers, service providers, and anyone curious about assistive technology in Coosa County are invited to attend the Accessing Potential Through Assistive Technology, or APTAT, Rural Roadshow in Rockford.
The event; which will take place Friday, April 4, from noon to 6 p.m. at the County Extension Office (243 Coosa County Road 75); will demonstrate the ways assistive technology can help remove barriers to living, working and playing independently, making life easier for those with disabilities. Visitors will have a chance to view and try out a wide range of assistive technology devices and services.
APTAT Coordinator and Assistive Technology Specialist Jessica McKay said the Rural Roadshow is a great way to reach people who might not be able to attend demonstrations in larger cities.
“While we love participating at events in the larger cities, we knew we were missing a significant portion of the state’s population,” she said. “We want to connect with everyone throughout the state and give them the opportunity to learn about the large variety of assistive technology that can benefit their loved ones or themselves. Most people don’t realize how much AT is actually available and how life-changing it can be.”
During the event, visitors can:
- Learn about APTAT services and other community partners: Information tables will be available from APTAT and other local partners to help visitors access assistive technology.
- Explore a variety of devices: The roadshow will feature everything from simple tools to advanced technology. Discover tools for communication, vision, mobility, work, recreation, and daily living.
- Borrow equipment: If you find a beneficial device, you can borrow it and try it out for 30 days.
To borrow items, please create an account on https://al.at4all.com before the event. Also, please bring proof of current residency (state ID, utility bill, etc.).
