Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
Well, I’m home after being gone for six weeks to Twentynine Palms, California. My oldest granddaughter was having a baby, so with her husband deployed to Japan, I drove out to be with her. 2,000 miles in three and a half days, with one day driving in more than 4 inches of snow. That was quite an experience!
I sure did hate to leave her and that baby, but needed to come home, so another 2,000 miles back. Coming back, I decided to drive I-10 since I hadn’t driven that route before. That’s the most boring drive, miles and miles of nothing but dirt, rocks and a few cacti.
However, there was little traffic except near the bigger cities, so I made good time. Thankfully with no snow or bad weather.
Don’t forget about the Coosa County Historical Society’s first quarter meeting this Sunday, February 23, at the Rockford Senior Center at 2 p.m. We have several items to discuss, which includes discussing the cleaning of the “old rock jail” prior to opening it in April. Also, we need volunteers to staff it on Sunday afternoons. If you are interested, please contact me for more details.
To become a member or renew your membership, you can mail a check for $15 to P.O. Box 5; Rockford, AL 35136. Please include your email address to receive the newsletter, or add $5 to receive printed copies, as well as your mailing address.
The free tax clinic at Rockford continues each Wednesday through April 9. It is located at the Rockford Methodist Church Fellowship Hall on U.S. Highway 231 north of the four-way stop. Someone will be there from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Appointments can be made by calling the Alexander City location at 256-234-0347. Be sure to tell them you want an appointment for the Rockford location. Walk-ins are welcome, also.
Don’t forget to mark your calendars for March 1. That is the next Bingo night for the Richville Volunteer Fire Department on Saturday, March 1, so make plans to come out for a good time. It starts at 6 p.m., and you play 20 games for $10. There are a variety of prizes to choose from, so everyone who wins can find something.
Continuing Bible verses about love, this week’s verse is found in Matthew 22:37. It reads, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.”
This is part of where Jesus is answering a question from a Pharisee about the greatest commandment. His answer is from Deuteronomy 6:5. God gave Moses the law for the Israelites, but it still applies to not only Jesus’ time, but ours today. This verse tells us to love God fully, not partly, but with everything in our being.
Be in prayer for all those that are sick in our community. But also, think about giving someone a call just to say hello; it will make a difference in their day. Many times, when we go out to spread blessings to others, it’s us that gets the blessing.
