Literacy Everywhere! sponsored the Third Annual Parade of Trees and Literacy Event for students and families of Coosa County schools on Monday, December 16.
Approximately 150 students and family members of Coosa County Schools in grades kindergarten through twelfth came out for the annual event. Attendees kicked off the night by making a Christmas craft and snacks in the lunchroom.
They also participated in a free book fair, where students chose five books to take home for over-the-holiday reading. Students also got to visit with special guests the Grinch, Clawdette the Cougar and Santa Claus himself.
The highlight of the evening was the parade of trees. Families gathered to view the numerous trees that decorated the halls, each created with loving care by students and staff. Each tree had a theme and was decorated to represent a book or show how literacy contributes to other areas in the curriculum, even math.
Various grades and organizations from CES and CHS displayed trees this year. The trees were truly breathtaking, and everyone enjoyed looking at each unique tree. The event closed with door prizes provided by Literacy Everywhere!
Meg Masters, the project director for Literacy Everywhere!, would like to thank all the families who attended the literacy event, as well as all the faculty, staff and students who helped out. This is the third year this event has been held, and it has grown each year. Masters is excited to see what next year’s event will bring.
If you attended the event, please take a moment to complete the survey by scanning the QR code.
