Failure to Submit Initial Service Line Inventory
Kellyton Water System was required to prepare and submit an initial service line inventory, as required by EPA’s Lead and Copper Rule Revisions, to the Department by October 16, 2024. The inventory must include all service lines connected to the system, regardless of ownership. Additionally, the system was required to review specific records to identify the service line material as either lead, galvanized requirements replacement, lead status unknown, or non-lead. We failed to develop and submit the required inventory and certification of records review by the required due date.
Exposure to lead in drinking water can cause serious health effects in all age groups. Infants and children can have decreases in IQ and attention span. Lead exposure can lead to new learning and behavior problems or exacerbate existing learning and behavior problems. The children of women who are exposed to lead before or during pregnancy can have increased risk of these adverse health effects, Adults can have increased risks of heart disease, high blood pressure, kidney or nervous system problems.
This required Inventory has been submitted to ADEM as required. Be advised that at no time was water quality or service impacted by this failure to submit. Further, after due diligence, no Lead services were found to be in place for the water system.
