Cathy Mann Smith

Cathy Ann Smith has taken her final curtain call. Born with a twinkle in her eye and a joke on her lips, Cathy’s life was a masterclass in spreading joy and mastering the art of living passionately.

Survived by her loving mother, Paula Jean Weldon, and her stepfather, John Dee Weldon. Her daughters, Amber Weldon and Marley M. (Christopher Patterson) Mann have inherited her knack for whipping up laughter and delicious meals. Her legacy of giggles lives on through her grandchildren, Kyndal, Matthew G., and Lenlee Davis. Cathy’s siblings; Jerry (Kris) Hooks, Rebecca (Sheldon) Hutcherson, Crystal (Thad) Royster, and Casey Duncan; will surely miss their sister, who always knew how to lighten any moment. Cathy was welcomed into Heaven by her father, Jerry Lenard Hooks; her grandmothers, Thelma Banks and Annie Ruth Mask; grandfathers, Richard Hooks and J.L. Ray; and her nephew, Barrett Abram Caldwell, who had set the stage for her grand entrance.

Those who knew Cathy would describe her as funny, passionate, and loving. Her humor was her superpower, diffusing tension and turning frowns upside down with the ease of a seasoned comedian. She approached every aspect of life with fiery passion. Her love knew no bounds, enveloping everyone in warm, heartfelt embraces that felt like coming home.

As we bid farewell to Cathy Ann Smith, let us honor her memory by living as she did – with laughter on our lips, love in our hearts, and the courage to reel in the big fish against all odds. Her spirit, like her favorite frog chorus at twilight, will resonate long after her physical presence has hopped on to the lily pad in the sky. So, here is to Cathy, the woman who showed us all that life does not have to be perfect to be wonderful – it just needs to be lived with a little humor, a lot of passion, and an endless supply of love.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on November 30, 2024, at New Hope Baptist Church beginning at 4:00 p.m.

Memories and condolences may be shared at www.radneyfuneralhome.com.
