A log truck turning north onto U.S. Highway 231 from County Road 18 hit and severely damaged a power pole, causing a power outage in the Rockford area early Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred at approximately 2 p.m. across from Triple R Cafe and resulted in 308 Alabama Power customers being without power for a couple of hours, causing some local businesses to close early, including the County Courthouse and Alabama One Credit Union. While power was only out for about two hours, utility personnel continued working to replace the pole well into the evening. Although the log truck driver continued going after the impact, Rockford Police Department was able to locate the subject, and a report was filed. Rockford PD and the Sheriff’s Office initially responded to the scene to help provide traffic control, with school buses and other traffic being detoured around County Road 18 until the repair could be completed.
