On Monday, Sept. 2, at the request of the Auburn Police Department, special agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) launched an investigation into an officer‐involved shooting involving an officer with the Auburn Police Department.
The Auburn Police Department responded to a call for service in the 200 block of West Longleaf Drive in Auburn within Lee County.
During the course of the incident, a suspect armed with a handgun made forcible entry into the residence occupied by an officer with the Auburn Police Department. The suspect, later identified as Amari Young, 21, was shot and later pronounced deceased. No officers were injured over the course of the incident.
Nothing further is available as the investigation is ongoing. Once complete, the findings will be
turned over to the Lee County District Attorney’s Office.
