Betty Barnett Lashley

 

Graveside service for Mrs. Betty Barnett Lashley, 87, of Alexander City, will be Friday, November 17, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. at the Parkdale Methodist Church Cemetery. Pastor Dick Stark will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 17, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home.

Betty Lashley passed away on Monday, November 13, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on September 14, 1936, in Goodwater to William Penton Ashworth and Alice Loraine “Lula” Price Ashworth. She loved the Lord and faithfully attended Faith Temple. Betty enjoyed taking trips to many places, including the beach and mountains. She enjoyed flowers, going to concerts, listening to country music, and playing with her beloved pets, Sadie and Sonny. Betty was devoted to working hard, serving the Lord, and giving her love to her family and friends. Affectionately known as “Mama Betty,” she was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be missed.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Kelly Sherrer; grandson, Adam Lang Sherrer; sisters, Mary Ida (Herman) Robertson, Carol Sue Leopard; and sister-in-law, Ginny Ashworth.

She is preceded in death by her son, Richard “Ricky” Marlin Barnett; parents, William and “Lula” Ashworth; and brother, Billy Wayne Ashworth.

George Ellis Vernon

 

Funeral service for Mr. George Ellis Vernon, 79, of Hissop, was Thursday, November 16, 2023, at his home, 7337 Coosa County Rd. 40, Kellyton, 35089. Rev. Richard Horton officiated. Burial followed in the Hissop-Concord Cemetery.

Mr. Vernon passed away on Monday, November 13, 2023, at his residence. He was born on August 21, 1944, in Alexander City. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. George retired as a truck driver. He was a wonderful husband, dad, granddad, great-granddad, and great-great-granddad. George loved his God, and he loved his family. He enjoyed working on cars and watching NASCAR, as well. George worked with his hands all the time.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sue Hammonds Vernon of Hissop; daughters, Kimberly Vernon Abrams (Raymond) of Rockford and Susan Vernon Thaggard (Zack) of Dadeville; sons, Timothy John Vernon of Hissop, Mark Anthony Vernon (Tracy) of Hissop, and George Matthew Vernon (Julie) of Kellyton; 21 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sara June Bailey Vernon; grandparents, Lois and Lillian Vernon and Emmett and Molly Bailey; great-grandchild, Kimberly Ashlynn Sims; and sister, Diane Vernon Sparks.
