Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
Thanks to all who came out and supported the Richville Volunteer Fire Department at Bingo. They will have another one in June; more information to follow.
Also, don’t forget to order your Boston butts for pickup on Saturday, May 27, from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. They are delicious! Just a reminder that this is a fundraiser, so be sure and support our fire department.
The Old Rock Jail opened last Sunday with several visitors. It will be closed this Sunday for Mother’s Day.
I want to thank all the members who volunteered their time. We have no paid staff, so we depend on volunteers. Donations are appreciated by those that visit.
It will be open each Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m. until October 29 except for the following holidays: Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, July 2 (July 4 weekend), and September 3 (Labor Day weekend). If you would like to become a member of the Coosa County Historical Society dues are $15.
We are taking applications for the veteran’s memorial until the end of August. There will be more information and an application form on their Facebook page. For more information call or email me at the contact information at the end of my column.
I was able to attend one of my granddaughter’s nurse pinning ceremony and graduation in Pikeville, Kentucky, last weekend. It was a great time with my family. In addition, we got to see some of the local attractions. Congratulations, Olivia Hay!
Mother’s Day is this Sunday! I’m so thankful to still have my mother with me as many my age have their mothers in heaven. So if your mother is still living, be sure and visit if you can; if not, then call. You never know when this will be the last Mother’s Day you will be able to spend with her. Also, there are many women that fill the mother role. Honor them, also. I know in our church my girls had many “mothers” besides me.
So, my Bible verses for this week are ones that are familiar, Proverbs 31:25-29, which reads, “Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.”
These verses are known as a “Proverbs 31 woman.” What we need to realize is that it’s not about being “perfect,” but living with purpose and diligence. It’s about living for God as we go about our daily lives. No woman or man will ever live a perfect life, but it’s a goal for which to strive. This passage is not intended to make us feel bad that we can’t do all, but to give us guidance along the way.
There are several in our community that are not feeling well, so please pray for their healing in God’s will. God knows their names and needs. Until next week, take care and be joyful!
Organizations in the area, as well as churches, I need your events! If your family has some news or an event to share, please contact me. I would prefer text to 334-414-7147 or emails to wardgrand6@gmail.com, but phone calls will be fine, too. If you don’t get me when you call, be sure to leave a message.
