Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
First weekend of May! Happy birthday to all those celebrating this month, including my oldest daughter.
Lots going on in May, including Mother’s Day, graduations and Memorial Day celebrations.
Don’t forget this Saturday, May 6, the Richville Volunteer Fire Department will have bingo starting at 6:30. They also have concessions for sale. Be sure and buy your ticket for their Boston butt sale, also. These fundraisers help keep a fire department in our community.
The Old Rock Jail will be open starting this Sunday, May 7. It will be open each Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m. until October 29, except for the following holidays: Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, July 2 (July 4 weekend), and September 3 (Labor Day weekend).
If you would like to become a member of the Coosa County Historical Society dues are $15. We are taking applications for the veteran’s memorial until the end of August. There will be more information and an application form on their Facebook page. For more information call or email me at the contact information at the end of my column.
I saw a post on Facebook that really impressed me. It read, “Note to Self: Many of the kindest gestures you will ever make, and the most important things you will ever do, will never by seen publicly.” That made me think of Matthew 6:1, which reads, “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of people, to be seen by them. Otherwise, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.” Also, Matthew 6:5, “Whenever you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites, because they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by people. I assure you: They’ve got their reward!”
So, when we do something for someone, we are not supposed to brag about it, but know that God sees what we did. If you do something for someone to be praised or recognized for it, you did it for the wrong reason. That’s not to say it’s bad if someone is recognized for doing something good; it just needs to come from others, not you.
There are several in our community that are not feeling well, so please pray for their healing in God’s will. God knows their names and needs. Until next week, take care and be joyful!
Organizations in the area, as well as churches, I need your events! If your family has some news or an event to share, please contact me. I would prefer text to 334-414-7147 or emails to wardgrand6@gmail.com, but phone calls will be fine, too. If you don’t get me when you call, be sure to leave a message.
