Mac’s Automotive Detailing in Rockford celebrated its grand opening Saturday, March 18, with family and friends. Photo submitted
Union Square will hold its Easter meal/meeting on Monday, April 3, at 6 p.m. Come and enjoy the spirit of Jesus’ resurrection while eating some good food prepared by the best cooks.
God bless the mother of Union Square; Mother LaVerne Brooken Hannon, who celebrated her ninety-fourth (94) birthday on Saturday, March 25, with family and friends. She is also honored on this last day of Women’s History Month, and she well deserves it. Last, but not least.
She is the last of her five siblings that are still here with us and the last to complain about anything, her father always said. Her father and mother are the deceased Mr. Walter Brooken Sr. and Mrs. Jimmie Dean Brooken. Her father would tell people when she was a young girl not to bother her because she was different from the other children – never complained, kind heart and loving.
She was an angel to the whole family. Everyone soon learned that she was different and special when she was filled with the Holy Spirit at a very young age.
Just let me sidetrack for a moment. Some might ask the question, “Why does Ruby speak of the Holy Spirit so much?” I’ll tell you why. It is needed more than ever now, and leaders need to teach on it and act on it. Now killings are done by females, where it was males before. Children with guns killing, etc. Let us wake up before it comes home and then we say, “Where is the Holy Spirit, Father and Son?”
Let me get back on track. Mother LaVerne Hannon is still filled with the Holy Spirit today at 94 years old, praying, praising and reading her Bible everyday and helping whoever she can with her kindness and love.
She was married Mr. Tommy Hannon Jr. for 60 years until he passed in 2013. She gave birth to five children; Reen, Julie (deceased), Debra, Chris, and Warren; and raised her two grandchildren, Barry and Kim. Mother Hannon spent most of her life in Union Square; everyone knows her and loves her. On this day she is the mother of the month! Happy birthday, Mother, from the Square.
A grand opening was held for a car wash in Rockford, located at the intersection of U.S. Highway 231 and Alabama Highway 22 at the four-way stop, on Saturday, March 18, in honor of the (deceased) grandfather of the owner, Jerstavious Whetstone. The car wash is named Mac’s Automotive Detailing after the grandfather, Veteran Mac A. Whetstone.
Shown in this photo are some members of the family and the grand opening; the son of Mac is Jervis Whetstone, grandsons Jerstavious and Devyn Whetstone, and Mac’s brother, John Presley. Grandson Cedrick Johnson was unable to attend, but his presence was there. Mac’s wife, LouVelma Whetstone, and other family members had to leave early for various reasons. It was a great occasion with plenty of good food, fried fish, baked beans, coleslaw, etc. Rockford needs a car was so come be a support and get a sporting clean vehicle.
Happy birthday to Justin Tuck, Wein People, Janice McKinney, Brandon Davis, Judy Cunningham, Warren Hannon, and to all March babies. A very big, happy, blessed late birthday to Pastor Leroy Blocker.
We are praying for all storm victims and families of the school killing victims.
We are so grateful for the mayor of Rockford. Mayor Scott White is doing a tremendous job in Rockford.
