Happy first day of Spring! I really appreciated Judge Dean’s column last week. The national media tells us what we should be worried about. They cover what sells. You can trust them to zero in on a few marketable issues and pick them to death like a pack of…well, you know. There is no guilt or shame in ignoring them from time to time.
What a remarkable contrast to “The Coosa County News.” Each week, a small paper gives local events by local experts from around the county, opinions shared by county residents, and Ms. Christa’s wonderful reporting. She can cover uneventful meetings, improperly conducted meetings, disaster reports, crime stories, and human interest stories with an ease that never ceases to amaze me.
And we are fixin’ to have a real community problem. Our residential garbage pickup contract expires really soon. Remember my peeve about people driving their garbage around and dumping it on someone’s property? That didn’t just come from me. It is already a real problem with a huge potential for getting much worse.
The County Commission has been deliberating on it – endlessly. There are no bids. Two years ago, there was a lot of interest in bidding on it from different companies. What happened? Three days before press time, I sure don’t know. But I am worried about it. The story will come out. In the meantime, I will be your eye in the sky, dodging trash.
Love,
Buzzy
