In My Humble Opinion

The last couple of weeks have somewhat renewed my faith in the future of our great country. I’ve been to several events that showed that patriotism is still alive and well, plus there are young people who are involved. I’ll grab any ray of hope!
At the end of February I attended the Alabama Republican Party Winter meeting of the State Executive Committee and was floored by the number of new minority members and young people. When I first started attending these meetings about 10 years ago, the attendance was predominately older white men. In the last several years that I have not participated, the attendees have become much younger and include many women and Hispanic/African Americans.
I have been interested in joining the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) for quite a while and have started attending some of their meetings to help me connect to a relative who was a Patriot during the Revolutionary War. I was expecting most of the members to be “senior” women, but two weeks ago I attended their annual conference and was VERY surprised to see a large number of middle-aged and younger women.
I also learned more about a school that the DAR sponsors in Grant that teaches the real story of the creation of the United States of America. We owe our ancestors a huge debt for their sacrifices to stand up to the strongest nation in the world at that time. Unfortunately, we are now experiencing the same things from our OWN government – extreme taxation, extreme regulations and leadership that does not govern FOR the people.
Last Thursday I attended a session of our Alabama Senate that was opened in prayer by my pastor, Dr. Jeff Fuller of Rockford Baptist Church. This was organized by Coosa County’s own June Dunlap Rogers who is on Lt. Gov. Ainsworth’s staff and who grew up in Rockford Baptist Church.
My understanding is each session of the state Senate and House of Representatives is opened in prayer led by different people representing different faiths throughout the legislative sessions. It was an honor for Dr. Fuller to be invited, and it was an honor for me to be able to attend. He made Coosa County shine! And, as long as there is still prayer in our State House, there is still hope.
And then, that night I attended a dinner to hear Gov. Ron DeSantis speak. The Alabama Republican Party delayed its Winter Dinner to fit his schedule, and more than 1,700 people paid to attend. His “stump” speech is fantastic as he explains how his “team” has cut regulations, cut taxes, improved services, improved education, and so much more.
What I like about DeSantis is his use of “WE” instead of “ME” and “I” when talking about these accomplishments. He is respectful, to the point and a strong patriot. He has not announced running for president yet, but he is sure talking like someone who will be.
As this edition of “The Coosa County News” hits the stands this morning (Friday), I will be attending the BEST event of them all! I will be at Parris Island, S.C., watching one of my grandson’s graduate from basic training and become a United States Marine! I am so proud – we have Army and Navy service in the family, and now we add the USMC.
I won’t kid myself that his decision to join the military was based on a patriotic service to our country, but rather the opportunity to learn a trade and get out of small town Alabama. But I am hopeful that the Marines will instill that patriotism in him!
Meanwhile, in our nation’s capitol, our current administration wants to take away our gas stoves and control the washing machines we can use, continues to allow the invasion of our nation from both the north and south borders, base many decisions strictly on “climate control” rather than the needs of our citizens, AND (breaking news as I write this) allows a Russian military plane to cause one of our military drones to crash over international waters.
They continue to allow our enemies to gain control of our companies, our medical supplies, intelligence communities, and our colleges/universities. They offer NO repercussions for any of these activities.
I am cautiously optimistic as I see Democrats beginning to vote with the Republicans on some of our shared interests, so many legal immigrants to our country speaking out about the border issues, parents speaking out about the “wokeism” in our education systems, and the coverage of some of the bipartisan investigations into events that have been incorrectly reported by our media. Remember, I said CAUTIOUSLY! I will continue to watch and pray that more people wake up to what is really going on and come back to the patriotic roots of our great country.
Please join me in trying to bring patriotism back and return the United States of America to our rightful position as the leader of the FREE WORLD.
