First, I want to thank Buzzy for the great shout out in last week’s paper. It’s always nice to hear that someone shares my opinion and is not afraid to speak out.
That is one of the main reasons I write this column – to encourage other people to speak up, speak out, and speak loud! Buzzy and I may not agree on everything, but this shows that everyone can find SOMETHING in common with almost everyone!
I am still finding people who do not know we have a weekly newspaper here in Coosa County. Most of them are the newcomers who have recently moved in, but there are a few old timers, too. I’d like to encourage the real estate people selling homes in Coosa County to come up with some type of “Welcome” packet that gives these new people information on the services and businesses in our area. Maybe they can work with our Chamber of Commerce – which they should all be members of – to put this packet together!
Newspapers will soon be things of the past – at least in the paper form. Recently all of the major newspapers in Alabama – Mobile, Montgomery, Huntsville – merged into one conglomerate and now only publish online. Those of us who grew up with a newspaper in our hand, delivered to our home, every day, are the forgotten past. Digital is the new game in town.
I do enjoy subscribing to the E-edition of “The Coosa County News,” but I know there are many people who want their newspaper laying on the coffee table so they can read it over time. Everyone needs to start preparing for the future.
And speaking of news, I’m looking outside Coosa County right now. Our world is in turmoil, and our country is in decline. There are disasters hitting in every direction, and there is no way of knowing for sure just who is or who isn’t behind them. My conspiracy hat has come out of the closet, and I wear it when I’m not scratching my head.
The railroad derailment in Ohio is a real mess that the people there will be living with for years to come. People trust the railroad companies to follow the rules on what can and cannot be transported by rail and how the rail cars are positioned in the trains. My husband retired with 37 years with what is now CSX Transportation, and he carried a binder the size of a small suitcase detailing the rules for hazard materials. And the list of hazardous materials that are carried daily across this country is scary!
Under the Biden administration there is no sense of accountability for any of the cabinet members and their departments. “Mayor” Pete Buttigieg, the current director of the U.S. Department of Transportation, has yet to show his face in East Palestine, Ohio. He is blaming Norfolk Southern and, of course, Donald Trump. It has taken two weeks for the CEO of the railroad, FEMA, investigators, and healthcare people to show up. This is going to end up as a national disaster as the chemicals spread through the rivers, streams and creeks to eventually flow into the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean via all the tributaries that make up our major rivers.
We still don’t know what’s true about those “balloons” and other things our military finally shot down. Now China is possibly getting ready to start providing arms to the Russian military in their invasion of Ukraine.
North Korea is testing more missiles, Iran is very close to having nuclear weapons, and Russia has now suspended their participation in a major nuclear arms treaty with the United States. Our president went to Ukraine, but won’t go to our southern OR northern border to see how OUR country is being invaded – now with many Chinese getting in.
Mass murders are on the rise – daily. Our law enforcement officers are being attacked and killed – daily. Entire families are being killed by another family member – almost daily. Most of these crimes are committed with guns, but we are never told whether the criminal was a LEGAL gun owner or if he stole it or bought it on the black market. But the administration still wants to outlaw legal gun sales so only the criminals and the government will have access to weapons – the law-abiding citizens will be the unarmed.
Yes, I am on my “Negative Nancy” rant this week. But all of this and more is happening around us, and we need to get our heads out of the sand. The uninformed and uneducated among us are the people we need to be most afraid of, and there are more of them than there are of us. Again, our governments are removing religion from all schools, but putting in curriculum that glorify racism, different sexualities, equity over equality, and rewritten history.
But I WILL close with some good news. If you haven’t heard about it, there have been huge revivals happening on many college and university campuses in the last couple of weeks. And they are spreading!
The main hope many of us have is that our country will return to God and ask Him to heal our nation and world. If you and your family are Christians, don’t allow the school systems to indoctrinate them. Get them involved in some of these revivals or a church that still stands for the principles of God. He is coming!
