Richville Rundown

Hope everyone had a great Valentine’s Day! Monday is President’s Day which is a federal holiday, so school will be out, as well as no mail, banks closed and many government offices closed. Enjoy the day if you are off!
Tomorrow, February 18, a workday for the tornado victims is scheduled to meet at Rehobeth Methodist Church on County Road 18, Equality, at 9 a.m. until. Volunteers are needed to pick up trash and debris, look for lost items, and assist homeowners as needed. Please wear closed toe shoes and bring work gloves. Lunch will be provided.
Did you know that although it’s most often called “President’s Day,” the official name is Washington’s Birthday? Since Lincoln’s birthday is also in February, calling it President’s Day honors him, also. Until 1968 when Congress passed the Monday Holiday Law, Washington’s birthday was celebrated on February 22.
Providence Baptist Church is still seeking a pastor. Anyone interested or knows someone, contact a member of our church. We are looking for a bi-vocational pastor, so continue to be in prayer for our church as we search for an interim pastor, as well as a new pastor.
Union Baptist Church will host a Friendship Banquet on Saturday, February 25, at 6 p.m. Chris Crumbley will be the guest speaker. They will also have special music. Everyone is invited.
The Richville Volunteer Fire Department will host Bingo on Saturday, February 25, at 6:30. Come out for fellowship and fun, as well as to support the fire department. Concessions are sold during intermissions.
The scripture reading I’m sharing this week is I Thessalonians 5:16-18 which reads, “Rejoice always! Pray constantly. Give thanks in everything, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
In doing the church bulletin, I look for inspirational thoughts to include. In searching I came across this: “If you only pray when you’re in trouble…You’re in trouble! – I Thes. 5:17.” That doesn’t sound right, I thought, so I looked up the scripture. It was an eyeopener! I had not thought about the “pray constantly” in that context.
Praying, giving thanks and rejoicing should be every day, all the time! It made me realize that so many times I limit God’s blessings in my life because I don’t follow these verses. I’ve always tried to be a Pollyanna, but this is more!
It’s hard to praise and thank God when things are not going good in your life, but that’s what this says. God wants our all, not just when we are in trouble. Something to think about!
Please keep the Pat Hilyer family in prayer. There are several in our community that are not feeling well, so please pray for their healing in God’s will, as well. God knows their names and needs. Until next week, take care and be joyful!
Organizations in the area, as well as churches, I need your events! If your family has some news or an event to share, please contact me. I would prefer text to 334-414-7147 or emails to wardgrand6@gmail.com, but phone calls will be fine, too. If you don’t get me when you call, be sure to leave a message.
