February 8-April 12

Free tax preparation and filing: Volunteer Connections of Central Alabama is once again offering free tax services to Coosa County residents. The service will be available this year at the Rockford Methodist Church building, located north of the four-way stop at 9922 U.S. Highway 231, Rockford. Coosa County residents can visit the tax preparation location every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. through April 12. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments will have priority. Call VCCA at 256-234-0347 to make an appointment. Anyone who has any questions or needs additional information is asked to call the Coosa County Extension Office at 256-975-0089 or 256-377-4713. February 10

There will be a Valentine Dance at the Weogufka Center on Friday, February 10, with Randy Glenn and Peppy. Dance starts at 7 p.m. Cost: $25 per couple or $15 for singles. Concessions will be sold. Come enjoy a fun evening of dancing in Weogufka!

Rockford’s “Forever Young” Senior Citizen Prom will be held Friday, February 10, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Rockford Event Center. Please RSVP to Town Hall by February 6 at 256-377-4911. This is a FREE event for our senior citizens! Whether you went to prom “back in the day” or this is your first time, join us for dancing, finger foods and fellowship. Suggested attire is as fancy or casual as you wish!

February 11

Recovery efforts: There will be a volunteer cleanup day our our tornado victims on Saturday, February 11, beginning at 9 a.m., and we need all the volunteers we can get. This will consist primarily of picking up trash, limbs and other debris, as well as looking for lost items. We could use some men with chainsaws, too. Meet at the volunteer command center, Rehobeth Methodist Church, located at 664 County Road 18, Equality.

February 18

Third Saturday Trade Day in Millerville at the Bibb Graves Community Center will be held Saturday, February 18, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Shops open inside with toys, clothes, books, flowers, dishes, desks, tools, jewelry, collectibles, and more. Free outdoor vendor setup. Setup for vendors, yard-sale items, arts and crafts, and swap meet items. Food items and soft drinks available for purchase. For more information call 205-317-7798.

February 25

The J. D. Thompson High School Alumni Association is holding a Black History and Founders Day Program on February 25. The program will start at 11:30 a.m. at the old elementary school building; located at 1854 County Road 93 (Cottage Grove), Kellyton, 35089.  Everyone is invited to attend. The building will open at 11 a.m. for tours.

June 14-17

Summer Camp will be held June 12-14 at the Alabama 4-H Center in Columbiana, and 4-H members ages 9-14 are invited to participate. Coosa County 4-H has 25 camp spots. They are available on a first come, first serve basis. Register in 4HOnline (v2.4honline.com). Payment can be made in full in 4HOnline or pay in installments at the Extension Office (currently located at the E-911 building, 66 Communication Drive, Rockford). The camp fee is $150. A $25 non-refundable deposit is due by February 24, and the balance will be due no later than April 22. Need to know more? Weekly

The Goodwater Youth Development and Recreational Center is open to the public weekly on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and practice days for the travel ball team are those same days from 5 to 6 p.m. Cheerleader practice is held on Wednesdays and Fridays. Monthly

The Friends of Flagg Mountain host a potluck dinner (bring something to share) with entertainment by local musicians on the First Friday of every month.  Bring a chair and join the fun and fellowship with dinner starting at 6 p.m. For more information, see the Friends of Flagg Facebook page or contact Jodi McDade at 334-651-5226 (leave a message).

The Coosa County Republican Party meets the fourth Monday of every month at the Coosa County E-911 building in Rockford with refreshments at 6 p.m. and the meeting starting at 6:30 p.m. For more information email coosacountyrepublicans@gmail.com.

Quarterly

The Hanover Community Club and Neighborhood Watch will now hold quarterly gatherings at Andrews Chapel. These quarterly gatherings are held on the third Tuesday of March, June, September, and December at Andrews Chapel Fellowship Hall at 6 p.m. Everyone is cordially invited and encouraged to attend. Y’all come!
