Mrs. Bee’s fourth graders completed the “Bumper Coaster” STEM challenge to test height energy and energy transfer. The lesson from Mystery Science explains, “In this mystery, students will explore how energy can be stored as height. In the activity, they will investigate how hills give roller coasters energy by experimenting with a model ‘bumper coaster.’” The students used foam pipe insulation, marbles, masking tape, rulers, scissors, and a Styrofoam cup to build their “bumper coaster” and test the height energy.
