Union Square News
Ruby Johnson
Our dog, Kobe, turned 3 years old January 29.
Union Square’s Neighborhood Watch meeting is Monday, February 6, at 6 p.m.
February is the month of love and Black History Month. Blacks were taught love and not hate 12 months of the year. However, February is the month we honor that, respect that and practice it.
I remember someone shared this with me years ago. A white lady asked a Black lady how she can love white people with the way whites treated blacks. The Black lady responded, “When we were growing up we only had white baby dolls to love and care for. They did not make black dolls then. We learned how to love no matter what color.”
Love is grounded in our hearts and cannot be removed by hate.
Black history is for everybody and everyone who honors it. We all are a mixed audience anyway. My whole household is mixed black and white, including our fur babies. Our cat, Smokey, and dog, Kobe, are both white and black, and they get along very well!
First time in Super Bowl history two Black quarterbacks will face each other. We are so excited and love both of the guys, Jalen and Patrick, and we love both teams. However, we are going for the Eagles. Butch and I are on the same page this time.
He likes to go against me most of the time, trying to upset me. He says it is more fun that way, but not for me. I am serious when it comes to my sports.
I never tell him who I am rooting for when he asks, although he can tell by my reaction, but I try to stay calm and not show him my real side. Butch loves to compete, and he has a lot of fun doing it.
Let me take a moment to give some thanks. We thank the Town of Rockford and Mayor Scott White for the certificate of appreciation. It was a very big deal says Pat, Frankie and Ruby.
I thank Jimmy and Tracy Brown for sharing their story of their hero, Black Dog. It truly blessed me, and I can relate. I have a black dog with white feet, and he is one smart dog filled with the Holy Spirit as your Black Dog is for him to let you know when danger is near.
Our Kobe just had a birthday on January 29. He turned 3 years old, but still has that playful puppy in him. His intellect is so amazing that being a puppy does not matter. We wish Kobe a happy birthday, and “bravo” the hero Black Dog of Jimmy and Tracy Brown.
