Ruby Johnson
This past week has been a little difficult for me, thinking of loved ones who have left us here and the pain in my knee that caused me to use a cane. It reminded me of words that Mrs. Peggy once said to me. She said, “Ruby, it’s no fun getting old.”
Although she was in her late 80s, she was still looking good and doing good, driving, dancing, etc. It surprised me to hear her say that, doing all the things a 30 year old could do and never was sick until her last days here on earth in her 90s.
I think of many great healthy things she told me, and I see they all are coming to pass. I loved that lady, and we miss her so much.
I miss my brother Clifford “Big C” Johnson. Every January 9 on his birthday I think of him and the many laughs we shared together. Big C could make you laugh in any situation.
I miss him more and wish he was here with me when I heard of the death of Mrs. Ouida Maxwell just to turn my tears into laughter. I miss you, Bro.
I am sad over the loss of my friend Ouida and hurt because I was unable to attend her home-going because of my knee problem.
Ouida loved my daughter, Janice, and my grandson, Chesley. She and her husband, Stewart, took my grandson, Chesley, under their wings.
Ouida was loved by everybody in Coosa County/Ray community, Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Georgia, California, etc. Her sister-in-law, Mrs. JoEtta Maxwell, boasted on how lovable Ouida was, and that’s a fact.
In Ouida’s last words was a message to her family and friends, “I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one of smiles when life is done. I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways of happy times and laughing times and bright sunny days. – Love y’all, ‘Deanie.’”
Her husband, Stewart, says, “Ouida is gone yet not forgotten. She will forever be in my heart.” Her sons, Sanchez and Arsenio, will always remember their mom’s special smile, that caring heart and that warm embrace she always gave them.
“Kindness is the shortest distance between two people.”
“Peace starts with a smile.”
“When things go wrong, don’t go with them.”
“The best way to be somebody is just be yourself.”
