Equality & NIxburg News
Jennifer Williamson
I hope everyone had a blessed Christmas and happy New Year. Now it is time to get back to work.
We did get a little bit of color on the house before all the rain, thanks to local business Russell Endeavors. We still have so much more to do in renovating the house. I am not sure where I stand with it right now, do just enough to sell at a good price and cut my losses now or mortgage it to fully insulate, add solar, and install high efficiency appliances so that our comfort will go up but our utilities will go down.
Coyotes have been very active in the area; Dave Russell and crew are licensed to hunt and dispatch them. I know personally that I appreciate what he is doing as I have lost several livestock to them, as well as one of my husband’s beloved cats (assumed).
The coyotes are so brazen they were captured on a camera walking down County Road 98 just in front of our farm. If you have property that coyotes may be in or crossing through and are willing to allow Dave Russell and crew entry to hunt, please contact him on Equality Neighborhood Watch Facebook page.
Speaking of Neighborhood Watch, the next meeting will be held the third Thursday of January, which is January 19, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Equality Volunteer Fire Department Community Center (most know it as the old Masonic Lodge, but the building has been redeemed).
Tomorrow is First Saturday in Equality so please come downtown to support the Equality Volunteer Fire Department’s fund-raising activities, bake sale, rummage sale, and this month a special chili and grilled cheese lunch.
Jenny’s General Store will be closed First Saturday weekend and will reopen January 12 with new winter hours, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays until further notice. Of course, EPAC doors are unlocked at 7 a.m. every day while I work my full-time job, so you are welcome to stop in as I stated two weeks ago.
EPAC has Open Mic Night Friday, January 13, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.; my understanding is there will be a short comedy act to entertain us, as well as the usual musicians who come to play.
I depend on all readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; call or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
