Mrs. Mack’s Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) students recently competed in the Central Coosa Beef Cook-off Competition. There were four contestants in the local competition, two in the senior division and two in the junior division, with four judges scoring the students. The local winner in the junior division was Rachel Reams who won with a score of 90. Rachel prepared Cheeseburger Biscuits, Rotel Dip, and Potato Mins. The local winner in the senior division was Ry Gilbert who won with a score of 94. Ry’s dishes included Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls with a Cauliflower Medley.
Both Rachel and Ry will advance to the state level to compete in their divisions against local winners from all over the state to become a state winner. The event will take place April 14 at Jeff State Community College in Birmingham. Until then Rachel and Ry will continue to prepare their dishes at home to perfect them and increase their chances of becoming a state winner. The Alabama Junior and Senior High School Beef Cook-off Competition is sponsored by the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association and the office of career technical education and workforce development.
