Pet of the Week: Madame
As we have so quickly found ourselves in the midst of the holiday season, it is a special time of year when people enjoy the spirit of giving, and there are multiple ways you can give to area shelters this season.
The Coosa County Animal Shelter is steadily making progress and preparing to be operational soon. Those wishing to donate locally to Coosa County’s own upcoming shelter can do so by contacting the shelter via text at 256-391-7192 or email to coosacountyanimalshelter41@gmail.com for information on donating, whether it be a monetary donation or donations of materials, time, or labor to help the shelter continue making progress toward opening.
The Humane Society of Elmore County also has multiple ways of donating funds to their shelter, including through its website at www.elmorehumane.org or by mailing a check to the Elmore County shelter at 255 Central Plank Road; Wetumpka, AL 36092.
Additionally, while the shelter hopes that everyone will shop locally and encourages them to do so, those shopping online via www.Smile.Amazon.com can choose the Humane Society of Elmore County to receive a small percentage donation.
Additionally, Tails End Thrift Store, co-located at the Wetumpka shelter, is available to help everyone get started on their Christmas shopping. The thrift store’s regular hours for shopping are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and it is open to receive donations those same three days from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The Wetumpka shelter is also able to make custom engraved pet ID tags in the shelter office, which could make a nice gift for any pet lover. It only takes the shelter staff a few minutes to make a tag, and they have a wide variety of tag sizes, colors and shapes to choose from, including Auburn and Alabama tags.
The shelter even has medical alert tags for pets that might be on medications or have special needs. For just $10 your pet, or the pet of a loved one, can gain invaluable protection in the event they become lost.
The tags can be used for numerous other things, as well, such as luggage, pet crate ID, school book bags, and more. Visit the shelter anytime during regular business hours Monday through Saturday, and the staff will be happy to make tags for multiple uses.
The featured Pet of the Week at Elmore County Humane Society is Madame, a female who is about 11 months old and a possible lab/pit mix. Originally found as a stray, no one came looking for her, and she is now looking for her forever family. She is about 50 pounds, very friendly, playful, and good with other dogs.
If you are interested in meeting Madame or any of the shelter’s adoptable pets, visit the shelter’s website at www.elmorehumane.org and fill out an adoption application. Once approved the shelter will coordinate with the applicant to set up an appointment to meet and adopt.
The shelter is located at 255 Central Plank Road in Wetumpka. Visit its website or call 334-567-3377 for more information.
